Six World Marathon Majors Finisher: Henry Chan
(On coming Sunday, we organise a sharing session on Six Major World Marathons and invite 5 elite runners who has finished all six.)
When I ran my first Boston Marathon in 2012, I still didn’t know what is World Marathon Majors. At that time, I ran because I enjoyed and it was good for health too. In 2013, I hoped I could break my PB by challenging the fast course of Berlin Marathon, but I missed the registration time.
Fortunately, I had to visit the US, therefore I also ran Chicago Marathon at that time.
Since then, I had some idea on WMM. As I like running marathons over the world, why don’t complete all six races and plan a holiday too?
If you have no intention to qualify WMM by your PB, you can join lottery or raise money for charity. To complete all six races is not that difficult indeed. For me, it was more difficult to apply leave for running.
About how to run WMM, that depends on your attitude and training. You have to travel far away and experience the weather and time differences. Anyway, once you got the number bib, just enjoy the race, you can try your best to break PB, you can jog slowly and enjoy the scenic route too, no need to run hard every time. Sometimes, it is also happy to relax and enjoy the views, atmosphere and cheering from spectators or take photos when it is allowed.
After the race, remember to wear the medal and enjoy a good dinner. Europeans & Americans are nice, when they see your medal, they will congratulate you and say “Well Done!”. I often enjoy a five scoops ice-cream to celebrate my achievement!
